Although the deep south is not known for being a hot bed for reggae artists it is known for its affinity and passion for music. That passion has sprouted many talented artists including Outlaw Nation. The Outlaws hail from New Orleans, Louisiana; more commonly known in the social world as, NOLA. Christian Simeon, Danny Woolen, and Kevin Offitzer make up the group who play a style known as “Gutter Reggae Soul” – Nawlins’ Music.
Whatever you want to call it, Outlaw Nation continues to bring their brand of soulful, dance-happy music to their 6th release Back In Babylon. The album encompasses ones need for the expression of happiness. It allows the listener a chance to let go, be free, and enjoy the moment. A couple of our favorites are “Baseline” and “Rock Da Beat”. The former has a fast paced island rhythm. It’s a song you want to sing and dance to. You can almost feel the soft bayou soil between your toes. “Rock Da Beat” is another quick paced tune mixing elements of hip hop and pop. For the “grunge” lovers there are songs like “Inside of You” and the title track “Back In Babylon”.
Overall, Outlaw Nation offers one of the most unique sounds around. Their mix of reggae, alternative rock, hip hop, and electronica gives the listener a wonderfully new and exciting experience. A group you would most certainly want to see on the live stage, one doesn’t have to wonder why an outfit like Stoopid Records (part of Silverback Music, most known for discovering Sublime, Pepper and Fishbone) would decide to take on a group like Outlaw Nation. Back In Babylon simply adds to the already great stash of albums already produced by the group. We look forward to their next.
